Solar intertie photovoltaic (PV) systems are not particularly complex, that is the conversion of energy from sunlight into electricity,  Photovoltaic cells convert light into an electric current using the photovoltaic effect.
First there are panels, which collect the sunlight and turn it into electricity. The DC signals are fed into an inverter, which converts the DC into grid-compatible AC power (which is what you use in your home). Various switch boxes are included for safety reasons, and the whole thing is connected via wires and conduit.
A photovoltaic solar power system (or 'PV System') includes solar panels as the main component, and includes all of the Balance Of System (BOS) components needed to make your own energy. The majority of solar power systems include an inverter, which takes the energy that the photovoltaic system produces in direct current (DC) form and converts it to alternating current (AC), so you can run appliances in your home.

TYPES OF SOLAR POWER SYSTEMS

 

A Solar power system has an electricity generating device commonly known as solar panels, which are mainly on top of a house of building or open ground and place where there is plenty of sunshine.
There are three main types of solar power systems: On-grid solar system, Off-Grid Solar System and Hybrid Solar System. Each type has strengths that determine how they are suitable for your needs.

 

● On-Grid Solar Systems - Best for those who already have electric utility service, but wish to significantly reduce their electric bill.

● On-Grid Solar Systems with Battery Backup - This is for those who already have electric utility service, but want the security of uninterrupted power in outage-prone locations.

● Off-Grid Cabin Solar Systems - Perfect for the scaled-down power needs of small homes and remote cabins, going off the grid.

Also called a solar electric system or photovoltaic PV system, solar power systems use solar panels to collect photons of light from the sun and use them to create an electrical current.  To learn more about solar PV systems, please our page How Do Solar Power Systems Work.

A photovoltaic PV solar power system is a collection of components which, when used together, produce electricity from sunlight that can be used for a variety of purposes.  There are several different types of solar photovoltaic systems including the following:

All of the system types listed above begin and end with the photovoltaic array, consisting of one or more solar panels, which converts electromagnetic radiation in the form of sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity.  This is true for any residential, commercial, or industrial solar power system.  And, depending on whether or not a system includes batteries, a solar PV system will also include a charge controller, which regulates the charge to the batteries, and an inverter, which converts DC electricity to AC electricity.  A PV system also includes cables and wiring that connect all the system components together into a complete system.

An off-grid solar system store the electricity produced by solar panel in batteries and utilize the stored energy by converting it back to AC through the inverter as and when required. Especially in a high power cut or no grid areas, has resulted in increased demand for such systems. The reduction in battery prices over the years has further brought the system cost down. To protect against shortfalls of power when the solar system is under-producing then an electric source is usually added to the system. The power generated by this system can be consumed as the excess power can’t be sold back to the utility or grid department.

An off-grid solar system is designed for the power needs of mid- to large-size homes. Unlike grid-tied solar systems, off-grid systems have no connection with the utility grid, and must make all the electricity necessary to power your home.

How off-grid solar systems work

Off-grid solar systems operate from the stored energy in a battery bank. Solar panels are used to keep the battery bank charged. Your off-grid solar system has to be sized properly to meet your daily power needs and replace the stored energy pulled from the battery bank.

A grid-connected solar system is directly connected to the traditional electric utility grid. The electricity you generate using this system can fed back to the main grid. A solar net meter is installed along with this system to measure the units consumed by you versus what you generated and fed back to the main grid. When an on-grid solar system is producing more power than the home is consuming, then excess power can be fed into the utility through solar net metering. This system works only when the main grid available hense it does not work when the main grid not available.

An On-Grid solar systems are designed for those who already have electric utility service, but wish to significantly reduce their electric bill. With grid-tie solar systems, you generate electricity when the sun is shining, and sell any excess back to the electric company (where applicable). When the sun isn't shining, you just buy power from the grid, same as everyone else.
